ARTCARE
The analysis of art materials includes pigments, alteration products and associated particles. Artcare has adopted a fully non-destructive suite of analytical tools together with databases of reference spectra and particle attributes. We continue to refine our knowledge of materials and analytical nuances to best interpret the composition and alteration of artworks.
Non-destructive analytical capabilities rely on the complimentary suite of Raman spectroscopy (macro and micro), portable X-ray fluorescence and Optical spectroscopy (220-1100nm). These combined techniques can give a very clear understanding of material components and are complimented with traditional methods of Optical microscopy and thin layer chromatography. These latter two techniques require sample removal but have been pursued for their simplicity and historical role in artworks analysis.
Artcare have pioneered an analytical facet of Optical spectroscopy that has made this instrument more capable than prior analyses relying on conventional spectrum analysis and combined this with thin layer chromatography in an advancement in this simple traditional technique.
